Halloween has come and gone with October’s news:

  • USASF released the Dance Worlds score sheets for 2016.
  • USASF also released information on Background Checks for Owners and Coaches, including Why the USASF is requiring them, Warm Up Room Requirements.
  • Dana Fielding was named the Event Safety Administrator of the USASF Cheer Rules and Safety team.
  • NBC affiliate WPTZ published Student Overcomes Down’s Syndrome for Spirited Cheerleading Routine.
  • California made cheerleading a sport, starting in 2017-18, as covered by the LA Times, Fox 5 San Diego, and NBC 7 San Diego, and USA Today.
  • The National Post posted Cheerleading is a Highly Skilled, Dangerous Activity. Why Doesn’t it Pay?.
  • The Gainesville Scene published What Male Cheerleading is Really Like.
  • Cheer Media announced they’ll publish a College Scholarship Guide for Cheerleading.
  • The Huffington Post published Cheerleading: A Major Cause of Brain Injuries.
  • TVNZ posted a news report video, Cheerleading Not Just For the Slight of Frame – Big Boys in High Demand.
  • The Guardian published (Professional) Cheerleaders are Exploited Workers Whose ‘Sexiness’ is Used Against Them.
  • USA Cheer Announced the 2016 Stunt National College Championship will take place In Sacramento on April 28-19.

Also, with it now being Worlds competition season, please remember this paragraph from the Cheerleading Worlds packet:

Any athlete that has competed on the floor with a team in any level from a gym (Primary Gym), during the Worlds competition season (November 1, 2015 – May 1, 2016), will have to have a USASF Gym Release Waiver signed by the owner of primary gym before that athlete is eligible to compete with with the secondary gym at the 2016 Cheerleading Worlds. The USASF Gym Release Waiver is found at www.USASF.net.

August has come and gone and left us with some news:

  • The USASF released dates for the 2016 Regional Meetings.
    • June 10-11 in Chicago
    • July 8-9 in Atlanta
    • July 15-16 in Baltimore
    • July 22-23 in Dallas
    • July 29-30 in Costa Mesa
  • The USASF kicked off the What’s Your IQ campaign with the word Integrity.
  • The USASF posted resources for National All Star Cheer & Dance Day (NASCDD) which will be held on September 12, 2015.
  • The USASF also placed additional information about setting up a Parent Club Account with NCSI in the owners’ resources section. Owners can contact your Regional Directors for more information.
  • Inside Cheerleading Magazine accepted applications for the 2015 iC College All-American Team.
  • Cheer Biz News is taking nominations for their 35 Under Thirty-Five through September 14th.
  • On August 3rd Star News published Olympics Were Special to Cheerleader.
  • On August 14th Discover published Understand the Science Behind a Wildly Popular, Iconic American Pastime with The Science of Cheerleading, a New Ebook.
  • On August 16th Cheer Daily published Adults Trying Cheerleading For The First Time (Video).
  • On August 19th The Wall Street Journal published Copyright Case Asks: What is a Cheerleading Uniform?.
  • On August 20th the USASF reposted the 2015-16 Age Grid.

  • On May 1st the Visalia Times-Delta published California Assembly Bill Would Elevate Cheerleading to a Sport & the following day the San Diego Union-Times published No Need to Make Cheerleading a CIF Sport.
  • Although we haven’t seen an official announcement, it appears there are some promotions at the top of Varsity Spirit. John Newby is moving up to the former Herff Jones part of Varsity and Brian Elza, Tres LeTard, and Leslie Standlee appear to be filling his former role within Varsity Spirit.
  • On May 4th CBS published Herschel Walker’s Son Pursues Competitive Cheerleading.
  • On May 6th NJ.com published Cheerleading an Official High School Sport? N.J. Lawmaker is Rooting for it & on May 10th CBS Local published New Jersey Senators Want Cheerleading Recognized As Varsity Sport.
  • On May 7th the Haverhill Gazette published ‘The Performance of a Lifetime’.
  • On May 8th WBTW published New ‘Stunt’ Sport Takes Off in High Schools as NC Holds 1st Tournament.
