  • USA Today published Louisville Cheerleaders Suspended After Election Night Posts and the Courier-Journal followed up with UofL Cheerleader’s Tweets Ignite Speech Debate.
  • The USASF released their Scoring Philosophy for cheer teams with Special Needs and draft Worlds score sheets.
  • The Fashion Law published 5 Things You Read About the Cheerleading Copyright Case That Are Wrong.
  • The Argus Courier published Cheerleading is a Real Sports Test.
  • CBS and Patch reported on Adriana Douglas drowning at a hotel swimming pool while attending a cheer competition.
  • ABC and CBS published stories on 4 University of Kansas cheerleaders that were suspended over a KKK Snapchat picture.
  • The Gold Coast Bulletin (Australia) published Cheerleaders Competing on Gold Coast Bring $24 Million Boost to Economy.

July came and went, along with the final 4 USASF Regional Conferences.

  • Shane Womack shared a personal story titled How Cheerleading Saved My Life on CheerDaily.com.
  • The Chicago Tribune published Park Ridge Girl Dies After Collapsing at Cheerleading Camp.
  • The Lexington (KY) Herald-Leader published Former Kentucky Cheerleaders’ Engagement Photo Goes Viral via Kentucky.com.
  • WACH published Cheer Hard: An Inside Look at Competitive Cheerleading, featuring South Carolina’s Dutch Fork cheerleader.
  • WESH published Walt Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports to Open Cheer and Dance Venue, stating the venue should be completed within 18 months.
  • The Sentinel-Tribune published Cheerleading Competition Canceled For This Year’s Wood County Fair, citing music copyright concerns as the reason.
  • The USA Today reported Teen Fails to Make Cheerleader, Threatens to Sue, about an athlete that didn’t make Leon High School’s team in Tallahassee, FL.
  • WWLP published Concussions a Risk for Cheerleaders, Gymnasts, reminding us of the concerns related to concussions.
  • 9 News in Australia and ABC News in the United States published stories on a special athlete performance, including an athlete in a wheelchair, performed at one of the AASCF championships.
  • The USASF published the 2016-17 Cheer Age Grid and Dance Rules.
  • The USASF announced the Worlds Cup Race, and provided a list of events involved in the race.

June came and brought the first USASF Regional Convention along with some news:

  • The USASF released the first version of the 2016-17 rules and began requiring membership numbers for legality rulings.
  • The USASF held their first Regional Convention of the summer, but there is still time to attend 1 of the remaining 4.
  • Varsity All Star announced their annual judges training would be September 16-18 in Atlanta.
  • MetroUK published 21 Things Only Adult Cheerleaders Understand, which we found amusing.
  • Inside Cheerleading accepted applications for their 2016 High School All American Team.
  • The Commercial Appeal published Mother OK With $4,000 Annual Tab for Daughter’s Competitive Cheerleading, presumably as a follow up to In Collierville, Competitive Cheerleading Could Cost $3,850 a Year.
  • Varsity hosted the first Varsity University of the summer.
  • Gerald Bishop II, a coach at Midwest Magic All-Stars, was shot and killed in Columbus, OH.
  • Long time Morehead State coach Myron Doan was awarded the Founders Award from the university.
