Observations After Event 17 of 2013-14

March 27, 2014 By Spirit Company

Event 17 took me to the West Coast for the final time this season. Once again I didn’t get to see many teams perform due to the role I was in, so I don’t have much to say about the performances. I will commend the West Coast coaches for being more professional in my dealing with them than they have at times in the past. For as long as I’ve been attending events on the West Coast, they’ve been a very passionate group of people, and this time it seemed the passion was directed in the correct direction.

On the rules side of things I’m running out of politically correct things to say. I keep having and hearing of conversations between rules officials and coaches in which the coach insists something illegal shouldn’t be a deduction for a myriad of reasons, none of them being the skill was not actually illegal. I have a problem with that. The discussions should center around whether or not the skill was legal and that should answer the question about whether or not there should be a deduction.

Miscellaneous

USASF LogoDon’t forget submissions for the USASF Chairman’s Cup Award are due on Monday.

Only 3 Cheer Worlds bid events remain, with Cheer Power being the only one this weekend, and 4 Dance Worlds bid events remain, with Spirit Sports being the only one this weekend.

Also, don’t forget to reserve practice space at Worlds.

Finally, the USASF website has a new look.

USASF: Important November News!

November 5, 2013 By Spirit Company

USASF LogoWe’ve got some quick, yet important updates to begin your all star cheer and dance November. Please take a couple of minutes to read below and stay up to date with the latest USASF member news! Best of luck to those of you competing this weekend!

  • Essential member profile enhancements will take place Monday morning, November 4th. These enhancements will improve your user experience in the member system, upgrade information provided on your Event Rosters and add efficiencies to information management for members. Watch for an email with details to come first thing Monday!
  • November is “Program Declaration Month”! Cheer gyms will declare whether they are single or multi location programs, and if they have multiple locations, they’ll also declare whether they will share athletes between locations or not. Full details will be in your email on Monday morning.
  • All athletes must be registered in Athlete ID prior to the first competition in which they will be competing this season. All teams must submit Official USASF Event Rosters to event producers at each event. Click here for details.
  • Be sure to review the guidelines for teams with Special Needs that were posted online last summer before your first competition. Click here for details.
  • If you’re competing for a Worlds Bid, remember that cheer and dance athletes must be 5 Star Athlete Members before they take the floor at the bid qualifying event. Click here for 5 Star forms and to join online.

Thank you for your continued support of the USASF!
